The Foundation Education and Development FED is the Swiss centre for Global Education. This pedagogic concept puts the focus on globalization and its effects on the society. «Global Education» tries to find answers on how to deal with the phenomenon of  globalization at school, emanating from the experience that world-wide changes and  interdepedencies have an impact on education.

The concept of Global Education developped in the nineties basically referring  to the earlier concepts of «Development-Education and the Third-World». By contrast, Global Education focuses on every-day-challenges of the current society, trying to reflect on and build up a system of values, based on Human Rights, social justice and sustainable development.

The Foundation for Education and Development considers Global Education to be part of the more comprehensive Education for Sustainable Development ESD.
